These were all taken with my Sony A6500 and my new Sigma 17-40/1.8 Art or Sigma 56/1.4 Contemporary lenses. It's the first timeI have used the Art lens - I bought it literally a few days before I left South Africa. Very impressive lens!

Randy said he’d collect us just after 9am, which he did. What I wasn’t expecting is that he would arrive in a 1957 Chrysler New Yorker, a car that has been in his family since his Grandfather bought it new in that year.

Lake Onondaga is quite close to our village so we headed over there yesterday. Weather was very warm at about 30˚C (86˚F) but not as humid as it was last week, when I felt like I had been teleported back to Durban in the summertime.

One of the things that we are finding quite strange about our new environment is just how late the sun goes down at night. Back in South Africa on the east coast it gets fully dark at around 6:45pm in summer and it gets dark quickly. Here in Upstate new York it feels like maybe 4 or 5pm but when you look at the clock it's close to 9pm! That's quite a shock to the system because normally I have one foot in my bed at that time.

After well over a year, maybe two of neglecting my Sigma sdQuattro-h  I charged its totally flattened battery and took a couple of panos with the IR-cut filter removed and an R72 IR filter placed in front of a 1983 Soviet Mir 20M 30mm f3,5 lens adapted to the camera to produce these two photos.

Last month I finally pulled the trigger on a Mac mini M4. I got the base model with 16GB of RAM and 256GB SSD. So far I am not displeased with the performance, although I have not really put it to the test by trying to edit any 4K video.

Fascinating story about how a photographer ended up with a box full of unprocessed 35mm films from the 1960's San Francisco "scene" (Haight / Ashbury, etc). They don't know who took the pictures but the ones that they have processed already are remarkably good.

Last weekend I did something quite unusual. I drove a 1500km round trip from my home to a small farm in the North West province of South Africa (about 80km from Sun City) to do what was effectively a 1 hour product shoot.

It looks very interesting, but also very boring at the same time (to me anyway). The new computational photography features are typical of what the old Olympus company used to do with their cameras back when I first got into the MFT system - very cutting edge.

The Salton Sea, in southeastern California. This spot has some of the best sunsets in Cali due to the salt coming off the lake. It creates a moody feeling (the HDR doesn't hurt either).
