Retro Fun - Fuji Finepix S2 Pro

Got this just because.   I've always liked the CCD sensors and have wanted to experiment with the Fuji Super CCD ever since it was released.

I'm a fan of the overall camera design and feel.  Only had a chance to play around with some test shots in JPG mode.  RAW files will be next.

I picked up a Nikon 28-70/3.5-4.5D to use with it.  Sensing out the options for a possible better optic in the future...but this will do for now.

The Camera:

The OOC JPG with a slight Lightroom tweaking to exposure and sharpening.

Wow, that’s a proper relic! I remember these being quite desirable, especially since Nikon’s D1 was like unobtainium at the time.

Yeah, I remember in my area both being relatively hard to find and expensive.   Got this S2 Pro for $100...definitely worth some experimentation now.

Went out and shot RAW on this retro beauty today.

Exposure and cropping post processing done in Lightroom Classic, then did final noise and sharpening in Topaz Sharpen AI.

I will be shooting this camera in RAW from now on and may even keep an eye out for some good deals on a better lens, although the 28-70/3.5-4.5D I'm using is doing rather well, all things considered.

Alright - another experiment.

Shot in B/W mode

Fine file size and 4256 resolution (12mp upres)

Tone = hard

Sharpness = Hard

even though I had these settings, to my surprise the black and white points were pulled in toward the center much more than I thought.

Did some Lightroom to tweak exposure some, straighten, crop and added grain between +40 and +60.

Still using that Nikon 28-70/3.5-4.5 D!!

Enjoy!

More play, but with a different lens this time.  Found a what looked like a brand new Nikon 55-200/4.5-5.6 VR II at the local camera store used.

Just a little back yard testing.

DxO Filmpack 6 for the monochromes and Nik Analog Efex Pro for the color image.  Shot RAW and processed in lightroom, sharpening in Topaz Sharpen AI.

I like the processing. It lends a mysterious air to the imagery.

While I find the images normally acceptable, I often find myself looking for ways to creatively express myself and the scene.

i find that the post processing tools I’ve found give me a good base to start and can tweak from there.

i think it allows my images to stand out just a little bit.

Shot again with B/W mode, TONE = HARD, SHARP = HARD but this time at 3024 (6mp) resolution and the Nikon 18-70/3.5-4.5

A little tweak here and there with the Lightroom for exposure and this is what I got!

Interesting - at web resolutions you can't see any limitations to this set up.

Color JPG with a little bit of Lightroom post processing and also run some through DxO Filmpack 6 or Nik Analog Efex.

S2 Pro was partnered with the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 G.

Great photography, Andrew.

Tell me, how did you find fresh batteries for this camera? Are they easily available?
