13 September 2013 : Namibia Outtakes (Himba Orphanage)

We packed the bags early and left Damaraland, heading towards the great big dry spot they call Etosha. On the way we stopped at an orphanage for the Himba people in Damaraland. The Himba are not from this area, they are a tribe from the north of the country, closer to Angola, but this land was given to them by the government. They also rely heavily on donations and sponsorships.

First, make sure the gear is all there.

The women of the Himba are renowned for their bright ocre braids. There is a significance attached to these which was explained to us, but I have since forgotten. What I do remember is that it was insufferably hot in this place. Well over 40˚C.

Later in the day we arrived at Etosha game reserve.
