  1. Today there is new firmware for: Olympus: E-M1, E-M5 II Sony: A6000, A7 series Sony bumps the fw. to version 2.0 and adds XAVC-S codec and faster startup speed. It seems that Fujifilm is inspiring its' competitors.
  2. The new firmware that gives C-AF up to 9 fps has been released, and the camera updater software can be used to update the camera. With previous firmware the maximum was 6.5 fps in the C-AF mode, according to Olympus.
  3. Here is a link to a rumour of a new firmware for the Olympus OM-D E-M1. It is supposed to contain many improvements for video. http://www.43rumors.com/ft3-this-is-the-amazing-list-of-new-features-coming-with-the-next-e-m1-firmware-upgrade/
  4. I just read that there was a new firmware upgrade for the E-M5 (ver 2.0), so I duly did the upgrade to see what was new. One of the two new features this upgrade adds that will make E-M5 owners quite happy is that the camera now offers ISO 100, or LOW as they call it. This will allow users to make better use of the super fast Olympus glass at wider apertures in bright daylight conditions. The other change is that you can now select smaller AF points, which is something that will make the camera much nicer to use. There are 35 of these AF points that are well spaced across the frame and being smaller means that you can isolate smaller AF targets much easier than the big old fat points the camera used to be limited to. Activating these points is not something you can do in the menus, oddly enough. To make the change you need to use the AF point selector to shift the point. Doing this shows up a screen with all the possible AF points you can use. With this on the display you then press the INFO button and down in the bottom left corner you will see that moving the nav buttons up or down will show you the different options for AF zones. Left and right nav presses let you choose whether to switch on the face detection, or the left or right eye focus priority. Good luck remembering that! I was hoping that the next firmware upgrade would bring focus peaking with it, but I guess that might make the E-M5 a bit too attractive an alternative to would be purchasers of the new E-M10.
  5. Fujifilm X100 Firmware v.2.0 Fuji has released an unheardof postmortem firmware update for a discontinued camera - great news for those of us still slinging the vernerable, if slightly-quarrelsome, Fuji X100 - pre-S version, circa 2010-12. Précis: - 20% faster AF speed - enhanced focus distance - 30% improved close-up non-macro focusing distance - adds Manual Focus Peaking assist - Improved EVF or LCD MF wide open - 0.2 second faster start-up - toggleable AF selection area The new firmware won't yield the sensor improvements of the X100S, but the camera makes fine captures - and it just got a whole lot sweeter in some of its most previously annoying aspects... Happy Sunday, all - LINKIES Fujifilm Press Release / Announcement http://www.fujifilm.ca/press/news/display_news?newsID=178 Fujifilm X100 Firmware v.2.0 Update Link http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/firmware/x/finepix_x100/download.html No new .pdf Manual yet, but wil add to the thread if I become aware of one.
