    De Naald van Waterloo / The Waterloo Needle, Baarn/The Netherlands The Waterloo Needle was placed in honor of Willem Frederik, Prince of Orange, later King Willem II. He was the first to repulse the French attack at Brussels (Quatre Bras) in 1815 and held out so long that the Allies led by the English Commander-in-Chief Wellington arrived in time to defeat the French Emperor Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo.
