Having failed to capture some decent sunset pictures the other evening (as noted in the later entries to this post), I decided to go for sunrise instead. DSCF4322 DSCF4323 OK, I cheated a little bit - the white balance is set to 'daylight fluorescent', which makes it even more golden looking.

We have very nice Spring weather in Holland so I planned an early wake-up to shoot a sunrise. The 16mp MicroFourThirds sensor though small has good dynamic range and the RAW files are an excellent basis for post processing. Olympus E-M10II + Olympus 75mm f1.8

This adult common loon was imaged at sunrise in northern Michigan last week. Very foggy. I was most struck by the effect of the sun on water. It seemed to be almost a solid, textured surface. Part of the effect is caused by the large amount of pollen in the water that am and specular reflections, coupled with shallow depth of field. D4 600VR f/5.0 1/2500sec ISO 1250 Taken from my boat Advice and comments appreciated. Please view large. Cheers Randy

This common loon was imaged at sunrise several years ago. I liked the sense of texture created by the angled light, and of course, that red eye. D700 500mm AFS f/7.1 with TC 14, 1/1600s Advice and comments always appreciated. Cheers Randy
