  1. Well thanks for all the recommendations but as the boss limited my funds I ended up with the following MBP: 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB GDDR5 memory 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display Did order 16GB of Ram from Crucial and will install a SSD drive later on. G-RAID mini to store my catalogs and back ups
  2. Planning on getting a Mac Book for doing editing while on the road. I want the 15" but which one would be best for photo editing. The 15" 2.4 i7 with Retina display or the 2.3 i7 with the LED-backlit glossy or optional antiglare. I will be running Lightroom 5 and Photomatix Pro with all catalogs stored on and external drive.
  3. So whats wrong with a pink elephant? I use to see them all the time when I worked with Dallas mainly on a Friday night for some reason Jokes aside Elsa thanks for your input I am still learning Lightroom 4 and my monitor is not the best quality. Hoping for a Mac Book Pro 15 soon just have to sweet talk my wife some more.
  4. Well here is my try at redoing my edit.
  5. Thanks for the comments I will try and redo this pic and repost at a later date. Taken at the Addo Elephant Reserve in South Afriva. Nikon D7000 with Sigma 70-200mm
  6. This was taken at the Lion & Rhino Park outside Johanesburg.
  7. Followed the vultures in the sky and found this huge pile of bones. The smell was aaaggg!!
  8. Taken on a trip to Addo Reserve South Africa
  9. Well thanks for all the good info. I think I will stick with my .NEF raw files as it seems a lot less work. And Dallas DNG stands for "Done N Gone" Hope ever one has a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
  10. So I broke down and bought a Mac Mini and will be installing LR3. At the moment I am watching some training videos on using LR3 and they talk about changing RAW camera file to DNG. How many of you out there go this rout. As I am a newbie at this and want to make my work flow as simple as possible. Currently using a Nikon 7000 and use ViewNX2 to sort pictures and transfer them to a external HD while on the road. The plan is to bring in the pic's to LR3 when I get home to another external HD which will be my work from drive. Any better idea's are more than welcome.
  11. Check out SRL Lounge they have a lot of tutorials on LR3 http://www.slrlounge.com Look in Post Production
  12. Ok so I bought a new Sigma 70-200 mm F2.8 APO EX DG OS lens and enjoying it but would like to get a little more reach for birding. Which TC would you folk recommend.
  13. Thanks for the insights. I have looked at some used lenses but they are normally 100-200 less than a new one which is not a deal as for a couple of buck more for a new one I can get a warranty. I still have a week or so before I go home so I have time to think and stew over which lens. The main reason I like the nikon 80-200mm is the solid build and I have tried it on my camera. Nobody seems to carrey the Sigma in my town Sacramento. The camera shops here seem to carry nikon and tamron. I did look at the tamron but it just did not feel solid and looks like bump would break it.
  14. Ok folks I have saved the cash and trying to decide which lens to get. My chose is the Nikon 80-200mm ($1260) or the Sigma 70-200mm ($1399) with OS and a tele-converter for either lens for a little more reach. This will be for my D7000. Any insight would be great as I have read a lot of the reviews and my mind is now fried. :help:
  15. Has any one tried to run Capture NX2 on a virtual machine. I am running Linux Ubuntu 10.04 and would like to try Capture NX2 so my plan is to install a VM with WinXP or would NX2 work with wine. I have been watching some youTube clips on NX2 and like the way it runs and the thing you can do with it. Running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit with AMD 6 core and 8 gigs ram 1tb HD
