SABI SABI GROUP SAFARI (2020)
AN EXCLUSIVE SAFARI FOR WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHERS
This safari has been designed specifically for wildlife photographers. We will spend 6 nights in Little Bush Camp chasing after Africa's Big 5 and other amazing animals.
The Safari Objective
Our main objective is to provide you with maximum opportunities to get great photos of the animals we will encounter in their natural habitat, including the Big 5 (rhino, elephant, leopard, lion and buffalo) as well as antelope and a large assortment of African birdlife.
Included in the price of the safari is a 1 night stay in the Southern Sun Hotel situated right next to the OR Tambo International airport. Here you will be able to unwind in comfort and acclimatise after your long journey to South Africa. An additional night may be added if you'd like more time to de-compress. The hotel runs a 24hr shuttle service (3 minute drive) from just behind the Inter Continental Hotel which is right outside the international arrivals terminal at OR Tambo to their front lobby. The airport has a large number of restaurants and there are also some essential as well as boutique shops.
About Sabi Sabi
We have been visiting the Sabi Sabi Private Reserve since 2010 and it has by far proven to be the most popular safari destination we have ever offered to Fotozones members and friends. The reserve is situated in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve which lies in the south western corner of the Kruger National Park. There are no fences between KNP and Sabi Sands so animals are free to roam a massive expanse of protected wilderness.
We will be visiting in the South African winter time which is a lot more comfortable and is also much better light-wise. The bush at this time is in the process of thinning out so visibility is much improved over the summer months. Temperatures in the morning can be chilly (around 8˚C) but they warm up during the day to the mid-20's˚C. There is very little chance of rain at this time of year.
This safari is ideally suited to a maximum of 4 participants spread across 3 luxury suites. We will consider increasing the size of the group to 5 if there is more than one couple interested in any of the windows of opportunity.
Game Drive Vehicles
Sabi Sabi uses open Land Cruiser vehicles with three rows of seating behind the ranger. Trackers sit on a seat in front of the vehicle. Each suite booked on the safari will be allocated a row of seats on the vehicle, therefore if you are coming on your own and paying the single supplement you get the whole row to yourself. We will also rotate the rows on each drive so that everybody gets the chance to experience different elevations. Your host will sit in the passenger seat next to the Ranger.
Optional Beginner Tuition
If you are a beginner or intermediate photographer with no wildlife photography experience, your tour leader will be available to help you with camera settings as well as tips and tricks to get the best results in the field. There will also be Lightroom and Photoshop editing guidance on offer during our downtime too. It's important to note that Fotozones safaris are not workshops. Rather they are "experience" events where the main reason for joining is to get away from the world for a while and to enjoy photography as a recreational pursuit in the company of like-minded people from around the world.
Your flight into South Africa should arrive in Johannesburg as this is the rendezvous point for our group. We will spend one night at the airport hotel and then the following morning we will fly from OR Tambo to Skukuza Aerodrome in the Kruger National Park. From there we will be collected by Sabi Sabi and driven to the lodge in the game drive vehicle with a canopy fitted and our luggage in a trailer.
Arrive in Johannesburg at OR Tambo International Airport. Spend the night at Southern Sun Hotel, OR Tambo. Welcome dinner.
We will have a leisurely start to the day and check out of the hotel at about 11am, make our way to the airport terminal using the courtesy shuttle service and check in to our Skukuza flight. On arrival at Sabi Sabi we will be collected by our lodge and should arrive at the camp for a late lunch before checking into our rooms and then enjoying our first game drive.
Day 3 to 7
Daily program at Sabi Sabi; morning game drive, breakfast, optional walking safari, lunch, high tea, evening safari, dinner.
On our last day we will enjoy the morning drive before returning to camp to have breakfast and then checking out. We will be transferred by the lodge to Skukuza airport where we will catch our flight back to Johannesburg. From there you will return home or join an optional extension to the safari.

Why Join This Small Group Safari?
This safari is for a small group of photographers who do not want to be lumped in with regular safari goers at a lodge (ie, non-photographers). Being with other photographers in a group means that we can commandeer an entire vehicle and make our own times for drives, as well as spend more time on sightings that appeal to us.
Every time we have been to Sabi Sabi we have come away with memorable experiences and magnificent photographs. Joining our group will give you an amazing opportunity to enjoy Africa and its wildlife in high comfort and good company.
Book Your Spot
If you want to join our small group safari experience to Sabi Sabi please send an email to email@example.com and we will respond with the booking form and details of how to pay your deposit.
We require a 30% deposit on all safaris. No spaces will be reserved for any traveller until this has been paid. The balance of the safari payment must be made no later than 4 months before departure. Travel insurance is of paramount importance, so please make sure that you have adequate cover before making a commitment to come on this safari.
Private Safari Alternative
We know that not everybody has the flexibility of time needed to join the group safaris we plan, however we are very happy to make all the same arrangements for you to do this same trip on your own time at any of the 4 Sabi Sabi lodges (subject to availability). We can also ensure that you have a private vehicle and photographic guide if necessary. Interested in this option? Just pop us an email.
