The Laowa/Venus 100mm F/2.8 2x APO for Close-Up
The Laowa/Venus 100mm F/2.8 2x APO for Close-Up

This lens caught my eye primarily for several reasons. It was a macro lens that went to 2x magnification. That I liked. Secondarily, it claimed to be apochromatic (APO), that is: highly corrected. And third (and last in importance), it was inexpensive at around $500. And the Sony E-Mount version has 13 aperture blades, which also seems a plus.

Impressions Of Olympus' E-M1X
Olympus South Africa very kindly loaned me an E-M1X for my recent Photo Safari to Sabi Sabi and while I only had a few days before leaving on the trip to become accustomed to the camera, I did manage to produce some great images (by my standards) while using it in conjunction with the Olympus 300mm f/4.0 PRO.

It's nice to see this happening.
I've been back with film (monochrome only) for over two years now, and for me it's been the best thing I've done for a long while, having completely reversed what was a declining interest in taking photographs.

Olympus E-M1 Mk II Firmware 3.0
I just got word that Olympus has updated the firmware in the E-M1 Mk II and this sees it now getting a lot more of the features that the E-M1X has, including improved AF, expanded ISO range (down to ISO 64) as well as some other stuff that I didn't even know these cameras could do. Here's Robin Wong to run through some of the details.

24-70mm f/4.0 S
This lens is an good example of the advantages the new Z-mount brings. The large diameter of the Z mount allows the lens designers to come up with new exciting and/or better performing lenses.

Palace of Arts at Budapest
Palace of Arts at Budapest by night. This is a pano image stitched to TIFF, so I had to compress it to hell to be able to upload here, so sorry about the artifacts this may cause by viewing.

Remembering Namibia (10 Years Of Safaris Part 4)
In 2013 I wanted to offer a very different kind of safari to what we had been doing at Sabi Sabi. This time I set my sights on the big skies and seemingly endless desert landscapes of Namibia.

Pileated Woodpecker
Finally!  I got a picture of a Pileated Woodpecker from our deck.  Overcast and flat light, but for once the bird stuck around long enough for me to catch it in a fleeting perch on a dead branch.

The Mind and Photography: an ongoing process.
Yes, I know I am repeating myself in saying that photography is a more precise medium than video. We sincerely love video because it is live, it is colorful, it is soundly, it is cinematographic. It is fiery tail on our animated visual and earring senses.

Flash Memories from an autosport photographer (1987-2001)
Many people that I have known during my active fifteen years in motorsport photography were very curious about the "glamour" side of the job (assignment). But .... almost all of us (mainly men along with a few courageous women) were mainly motorsport fanatics that are loving at first auto racing and ... were dreaming to be themselves real racers.
