14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 Lumix G Vario ASPH

Dallas

This is a very good kit lens, but unfortunately has been discontinued in favour of the plethora of other 14-42mm kit lenses available.

I have found this lens to be very sharp at all focal lengths and it also auto-focuses very quickly on the OM-D cameras, just as fast as my Olympus 12-40/2.8. Obviously the PRO lens will do better in low light, but this kit lens is not too shabby. It's a bit bigger than the other, more modern kit lenses.

Build quality is much the same as many of the other cheaper m43 lenses, plastic, but sturdy and reliable. You get a hood and lens pouch with it.

If you can find one I would definitely recommend getting it.

Actually this very first standard kit zoom is still in production and can be purchased new at the retailers.

I've used this one and the first generation 14-42 kit zoom.  And I won't hesitate to say that this very first kit zoom is superior: you need to stop down by one stop to get the image quality with 14-42 comparable to that of 14-45 wide open at entire zoom settings.

If you are not particular about the latest kit zooms of pancake type, this is the lens to get.
