Not one but two!

Recommended Posts

The last couple of days has brought not one but two announcements of dedicated black & white digital cameras.  One is obvious, Leica upgrading their monochrom to be based on the M11.  The other, which will be more reasonably priced is Pentax.

The Pentax is based on the k3-iii with a 25.7 Mpixel aps-c sensor in a DSLR body.  Price is US$2195.  See more at https://us.ricoh-imaging.com/product/pentax-k-3-mark-iii-monochrome/

would you be tempted to buy this?

Honestly, I don’t even understand the concept of a B&W only digital camera, let alone the unfathomable pricing!

Most digital sensors would be monochrome if it wasn’t for the colour filter array and subsequent interpolation.

I guess we are the first generation to grow up in the colour era.  The only reason for shooting b&w when I was learning was because it was easier to develop and print yourself.
