I'm Still Here (but barely)

Hey everyone,

Just a very quick note to let you all know that I am still here, but my free time these days is pretty much zero. It seems that somewhere a tap has been turned on and the photography business that has eluded me for the past few years has all come rushing in simultaneously. I haven't had a free moment for weeks now. New business in real estate, including video, product photography, head shots and today the first event since before the pandemic have been keeping me very busy.

I hope that all is well with the rest of the FZ family and I will touch base via a newsletter (hopefully) in the next few days.

:)

Good to hear - it's not the usual sort of commentary one hears from most in the photography profession these days!

It's like Moses tapped his staff against the dry rock for me!

Honestly, I am wiped out. I did an event for Mauritius Tourism on Wednesday and discovered to my horror on arrival at the venue (25km away) that I had left my only Lumix G9 battery on the charger before leaving the house. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, I had with me a loaner Fujifilm X-T5 with a 10-24mm lens that I had been trying out this week for my real estate photography. So after my heart rate had returned to normal pace I figured I would have to wing it with the X-T5 which I barely know and that one lens. I set it on Auto ISO (which had been set to go up to ISO 12800). I put everything else on auto and prayed that I would be able to at least get something to give the client.

The X-T5 is fantastic and I loved using it, but the massive files nearly broke my poor old Intel based Mac Mini when I got them back, so I think that if I go down this road I will either get the X-H2s or a used X-H1. Or maybe a new Mac Mini first? The 10-24mm didn't quite ring my bell for the RE shoots I did with it, but then again I am comparing it to the Pan/Leica 8-18mm which is by far the best wide angle zoom I have ever had.

What I really loved about the X-T5 was the ease of operation. It is such a well thought out camera ergonomically and everything just falls to hand so nicely. The EVF is astonishingly good, menus are pretty well organised (albeit comprehensive). I think I got off around 300 shots at the event and the battery indicator only went down 1 bar.

And even more astonishing to me was how well the little Tasmanian X-100 that Alan gave me did for this shoot! The shots below are some that I took with that camera. It really helped me out a lot.

Thank you again, Alan, for this amazing little camera. When I returned the X-T5 to the camera store they also had the X-100V in the shop. I don't think it looks as nice as the original, but wouldn't mind giving one a whirl.

You're welcome, Dallas. It's good to see it doing what it was meant to do again.
