Member Countries

Yesterday I purchased and installed a modification for Fotozones that allows us to see the flag of the country from where each member is posting. This is an automated thing that uses some kind of geolocation method to determine where members are. Obviously if you are using a VPN this might be wrong, so if you notice that your flag is incorrect you can go into your account settings (click your user name at the top right of the screen and then “Account Settings”) and you will be able to manually select it from there. You can also turn if off if you don’t want to share your location or see the locations of other members, but I hope that you won’t.

If you click on the flag you will also be able to see all other members from the same country.

If your flag isn’t showing, log out and then log back in and it should geolocate you.

I hope you all enjoy this enhancement to the system. :)

I forgot to add that the purchase of this plugin was made possible by those members who have opted to subscribe to Fotozones. Thank you! Your contributions are making a difference.

Mike, I suspect you may have been using a VPN. Or you still have those klompen on. :D As mentioned you can change the country manually in your account settings.

@vivionm I think you may be the only member living there. As more members log in we should start to see more flags appearing, so maybe that will change. It gives the community a nice international flavour, doesn't it?

Cos I have sorted it out now, note to oneself to read the whole topic not just the last bit. 🥵

It’s those damn Klompen again tripping me up! I once watched a demo of the making of klompen at Zannse Schans, took 10 minutes to make a pair!

Dallas, I wouldn’t know a VPN if it walked up and slapped me in the face. 🤡

Virtual Private Network. According to popular belief if you don't use one of these the entire world can spy on your online activity. I have nothing to hide so I have no VPN. :P

Dallas, if the entire world wants to spy on me, they definitely need to get out more and get a life!

I am vigilant to monitor my bank accounts for any activity by nefarious bastards trying to part me from my money!
But of course I’m sure I’m not totally safe, who is?

Can be helpful if you are travelling and wish to access country specific sites such as news, TV etc

Only if you are desperate not to miss a particular bit of entertainment, and I ain’t, sadly the news is universally dire!

Currently I am noticing a huge amount of "users" coming from China, which can only mean trouble. It could be a group of spiders crawling the site. Unfortunately this results in a drain on server resources so I have taken the action of blocking all the known Chinese IP ranges from accessing the domain name. I will be monitoring this to see if the blocking has the desired effect. Hopefully it doesn't block any of our usual visitors.
