D.I.F (Dolphin in Flight)

Recommended Posts

On our last day in the Aeolian Islands, our boat was surrounded by a school of dolphins who put on a fine show.

First one looks great, but I think the second looks like the focus is a bit off.

The sort of situation where high frame rates can be useful.

Thanks, Dallas and Chris.

Chris, I agree that the second did not quite nail the focus.  However, the pose is better, which is why I like it.

The two shots are actually reversed in time order (something went wrong when I posted, my mistake).  They are consecutive shots in a sequence at 8 fps, therefore 1/8 second apart.  I estimate that the dolphin was in the air for less than a second.  You never know when or where a dolphin will leap, so I think that the X-T2 and kit 18-55 did pretty well in term of speed of AF.
