Surreal Sea

Recommended Posts

The Salton Sea in southeastern California, with a bit of artistic editing. Comments on how to make it better?

It's quite striking! I like it.

The horizon needs some fixing though, looks like pin-cushion distortion has warped it.

Greg,

I like the composition, the light on the sand and wood pallet is really nice and the processing really works

the sky editing a bit heavy but I assume that is what you are looking for, there is visible noise in the darker areas and a halo over the trees on the left

pink water ? is the color near the real thing ? there are some lagoons in Yucatan mexico that are famous for having pink water, not sure if this is the case

and agree with Dallas' comment, the horizon is curved

Great depth of field everything is in focus

+1 on the comments above

The composition is good and the water color doesn't bother me

I've shot the Salton Sea many times (it's an image treasure trove)

The white pelicans are numerous and very showy (let's see some Greg... :P)

The story of the place is interesting... it's a 20th century ruin...

Thanks all.  The Salton Sea is an awesome place to shoot, but unfortunately is also being cleaned up slowly but surely. I took this one at the north end of the lake. I wish the pallet was a canoe or something, but you shoot what you can.

I adjusted the pin cushion and rotated it a tad. I also worked on the noise a bit (not sure if I got most of it) and made an attempt at eliminating those halos.  I also made the puddle a little bluer and darker.  Better?

Rags, I haven't gone out there to shoot wildlife yet even though I have a 150-600. Not a bad idea for next month before it really gets warm..

ps - This one seems a little darker for some odd reason.
