informal challange "spring @ f=1.4" (UPDATE)

Recommended Posts

[bLOG] The title says it. one example, more to follow, have fun shooting & posting!

First example is "spring @ f=1.4"

post-546-0-05372200-1367131920_thumb.jpg

[bLOG] OK. I see. The title is not clear enough.

Here is the second example. "summer @ f=2.0"

post-546-0-85384500-1367133430_thumb.jpg

[bLOG] So crafting a rule:

1) Use your fast prime Nikkors!

2) All apertures larger than f=2.8 in the EXIF are valid for entry.

3) Setting of f=2.8 or smaller are not permitted in this game.

4) Topic is "seasonal light"

5) Archived shots and new shots no limit in shots per user

6) Naming convention strict: "season @ f=0.0". You tell us which light you picture(d) and the aperture from the EXIF

[RULES VERSION 0.1b as of 28 APR 2013]

Hi, Frank, thanks for initiating an interesting thread!  Let me post a couple of images.  Hope they would suit your concept.

The flowers (Erigeron philadelphicus) were shot at dusk (hence the blueish hue which I like) using my "lethal weapon" Nikkor-O 55mm/f1.2 wide open.  The titles are thus:

"spring @ f=1.2" ver. 1:

"spring @ f=1.2" ver. 2:

You've hit the nail on the head for me, Frank: my next little personal project was to investigate the close-up potential of my Sigma 35/1.4 at f1.4 - not an aperture I normally use a lot in landscape work.

D800, Sigma 35mm at f1.4, slight crop (is that allowed?) Best viewed large.

Allium heads at f=1.4

Later.  Oops - forgot the subject was spring.   :no2:

spring@0.75 Rodenstock TV Heligon 42/0.75

First Forget-me-not in the garden, hand held, bottom slightly cropped.

Great idea, I would not have used this lens otherwise.

[bLOG] Kneeling down on Fons entry #3 especially and some great other entries too!

You make me so thankful with your pictures, my eyes wet literally.

I must have thousands of these: people, nature, architecture that all focus not so much onto the topic but on the light characteristics.

I will try to pick some I have not to be too ashamed of in this high quality collection.

Cheers & Thank you again

Frank

PS@Dave: Crop is allowed and has not to be tagged. Framing is the high path.

PS@All: Yes "Nikkor" defind as "Nikon-F-Mount" or adaptable, so any glass brand will do as long as the aperture is strictly larger than 1:2.8. Zooms are strictly ruled out.

Funny that there are so many "speed demons" here, especially around in Scandinavia!  I do know who's to blame.  :D

Here's another one shot during the same stroll, hence the same title "spring @ f=1.2".

[bLOG] I tend to invite some of you to exchange their entries by going out there and collecting light in a more appropriate and motivating way. I try to mark the entries I like with the like button -- a hint

Spring@1.4 ; not inspired but genuinely from my garden

post-8569-0-04157600-1367424005_thumb.jp

Another one, "nulle rose sans épine". All with the sigma 35/1.4

post-8569-0-37584700-1367424085_thumb.jp

as you may see, background blur can be very good or disturbing, depending on the scene. But overall I am very, very pleased with this lens.

Winter @ f2.8

Winter tyres are not widely used here and then people whine, which is irritating. These are my Pirelli Wintersport 210s, not the most aggressive of winter tyres but still a big step up from summer tyres on ice.

Evo magazine woke up to them a couple of years ago, which was nice - now you can actually get hold of them in the UK without resorting to ebay Germany as I used to do.
