MetaBones Converter: Kudos to Dr. Brian Caldwell (Coastal Optics APO 60/4 UVIR )

A new Canon EF lens (not EF-S) to Sony NEX lens converter, with 1-Stop increase - and AF works (DPReview: pokey, but it will autofocus).

"Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II lens becomes a 59mm f/0.9 lens on a Sony NEX..."

Other mount combos to follow: Leica R, ALPA, Contarex, Contax C/Y, Nikon F (with aperture control for G lenses), Micro 4/3 and Fuji X-mount. Other mounts to be added in the future.

DPReview mini-review, some chart and real life shots. Looks much better than one might expected (but then, Brian Caldwell designed the optics...):

Being that I use AI-s lenses on my Fuji most of the time, I can't wait to get one of these babies to substitute for the adapter I have to use anyway. My once-favourite 35/1.4 AI-s Nikkor which I bought new a couple of years back has been sitting around unused as I'll obviously use the Fuji 35/1.4 in preference, but suddenly it will have a whole new lease on life with that stop extra and a proper near 35mm full-frame aov (as will the 105/2.5 & 85/1.4 :) ). Might just mean I won't have to buy the upcoming Fuji 23/1.4, eh?

I also cannot wait to see what happens with my Nikon-mount Samyang 14/2.8 on the X-Pro1 with this thing in the middle! :)

This could just be the clever photographic innovation of the decade.
