The kit lens is not as good as the venerable original kit lens 14-45. You have to stop down one more stop to get the similar sharpness you would get with 14-45 (at any focal length).

Having said that, I don't see any inferiority of this lens when compared to the kit lenses of other brands. The in-camera correction of distortion and chromatic abarration works very nicely. The mount is, unlike 14-45, is made of plastic, which doesn't bother me at all.

The problem would be that you cannot buy the lens only, which could be troublesome when yours is damaged and irreparable.
