Spotted this yesterday in southern Indiana. It's definitely a spreader... :D
I've seen the big picture and I'm not in it.

A shy sign.

The sign says "brandvej" (fire escape) on the other side...

Not really sure if this counts as it was a fire safety poster rather than a sign, but what really amused me was the choice of tool to break the glass and set off the fire alarm!

Please could you explain the issue behind the re-voting situation. It seems harsh on Mrs P to tell her that she has won, and then to have a re-run.

I think the note that explains the reason for re-voting is a bit confusing. If re-voting needs to take place because the winning entry was invalid then why does it not explicitly say so? I find a bit misleading, cause it gives the impression that if you were happy with your earlier vote you need not do anything, while it is clearly evident that the previous wining entry is missing and at least the people who voted for it, as I did, should be made aware of it. People who will read the note only and won't bother running through the entries again may miss the opportunity to re-cast their vote thinking that it will be retained and counted as before. Took me a while to understand really what has happened and was about to post a question after I scrolled down the images, about the missing entry but the dialogue above hinted the reason.
Just my 2 cents
Thanks.

The entry that got the most votes was invalid. So we do the voting again. That is the only fair way. If people haven't changed their minds there is no action necessary. for those who cast their votes for the disqualified entry, you can either do nothing, or find another candidate to vote for.

For any new challenge, it will be very clearly stated that people can only submit their own pictures. Should be fairly obvious, but these days one has to play safe.

Totally agree with the above. All I am suggesting is to put this text in place of what is posted in red now :)

OK, will do. (Done)

The NG Management does not want similar incidents to occur in the future and we remind any member that copyright to intellectual property, under which photography belongs, is a valuable asset and should be treated accordingly. We will not, however, do any policing of entries and suchlike, but rely on the integrity of our members.

Let me tell you all what happened. I photographed a photograph that was on display in a mall we visited. I do not know who shot it but it was on public display. Is that any different from shooting a painting in a museum ? It was my photo i submitted but the subject matter was the photo by another. I am not sure this is a copyright infringement. That is my legal opinion, and i am an attorney.
Sorry for all the problems I have caused.

The photo was identical to the hundreds of samples floating around the internet, down to the reflections in the glas. That lead to the entry being automatically matched to the existing ones on the 'net by various search engines and flagged as a copy.

Let's close the case. I'm convinced we won't meet a similar dilemma next time.

If you take a photograph of someone elses art, does that permit you to call that photograph your art?
That's the essense of the issue.
If your photograph is just a duplication of another photograph, I'd say not so much.
If you present someone else's piece of art in a creative new perspective as part of a different composition, thereby adding something inspired that wasn't there before, I think you can justify calling that new creativity your art.
And even if the technical quality of the image is less than perfect, the art is in the conception itself, the rest is just technique.
I think this is a good discussion to have. And ultimately, more important than the original challenge subject.
