I went to the Muscat Fashion Show with my D3s and 200 VRII on a strictly very personal shoot.

At the end of the show one of the Designers approaches me and ask if they could get my pictures.

I offered the pics free of charge as I am not a commercial photographer.

Couple of weeks later, I get a call from Faces magazine who wanted to get my pictures for a feature article on this particular Fashion Show.

One week later, my pic is on the cover of the magazine and some 20 pics included in the main magazine feature!

And I am not even a commercial photographer, I simply direct, commission and purchase photography on a professional level.

I have ordered the D4 and the D800 + D800E and surely will be seized by the guys at the office.
The rest of the money has been reserved for charity. (you have also to give a litle sometime)

The story does not end here as two of the designers are chasing me up to do their collections!

So there you go, the turns and twists of life.

Good heavens! You bought 3 top end cameras with the proceeds? That's like 3 times Christmas morning (and BIG ones at that). Only difference is, you already know what's in the stocking Posted Image
What do you mean shoot RAW? I don't want to get arrested!

But you know what is needed — and you obviously know how to deliver it too!

Many, many congratulations: and may your career soar to new heights!

Very well done indeed.

Nice to know there is occasionally a lucky break for someone with
your obvious talent.
(not luck that your photos are excellent, but luck that they were seen by the right person). :)

Tony

One of the reasons why the Designers are thrilled with these photographs is that the fabrics and cut of the clothes have been allowed to be the stars and most fashion photographers seem to ignore that requirement and simply concentrate on getting sexy shots of the models — with no regard to the "product" (which is the clothing and NOT the girls!).

That is where you have the advantage in that you bring your extensive experience as a Director to the task of photographing fashion.

Tony, thank you and yes, it is 90% luck and 10% sweat!

Mebyon, thank you

Chris, that is not fair, I asked first Posted Image

Ann, you are right on the money. I was in the photogs pit with TV crews (Fashion TV - MTV...etc) and a multitude of press photogs and it looked that they were here for the job and waiting for the after show drinks!
I had similar comments to yours that the clothes are the heros and not the models. Probably this is what clenched it.

Anthony, armanfo, Ron, Mark, Thank you
