Loved the lens when I shot DX, only sold it when I got my D700.  The range, size, and weight were great when carrying two bodies for events.  The 24-70 and 70-200 I have now are great but heavy (also replaced my Nikon 17-55).

I would have rated it outstanding but is anything really perfect?  And while HSM is fast I think AF-S is a little faster.  Some have said it needs OS but I'm not sure it really needs it.

I owned the first version on this lens and used it with a D200. Lateral chromatic aberrations degraded far too many images. I gave it a two because it was solid and could render sharp images, but the long end was weak.
