I'm afraid to try IR and UV photography.....I know that if I do, I'll never, ever stop because these shots really do something to my minds eye.....not to the point of making jump around naked yet :) Is the D2Xs not suited for either? Does one need to strip the sensor or do other manipulations to the camera in order to begin exploring these worlds?

If you are a D2X/Xs shooter, you are safe from those unhealthy areas of photography. A D70 can be used for IR without modiifcation, but exposure times will be longish. It will also work very well in UV, provided you have the proper lenses for it.
