The fine loon was imaged last summer in Michigan. Since using the D4, i have been most impressed by its increased dynamic range compared to the D700. Loons tend to be a bit of an exposure nightmare, and I was usually off the lake by 9:15 unless a cloudy day, because it wasn't possible to properly expose both the brilliant whites and inky blacks. I now can stay out longer, and even in bright light capture their wide dynamic range.

Advice and comments always appreciated.

Good results Randy.
Plus I'm usually lazy and read NG on my v2 iPad. This never does justice to the images.

Today I'm viewing your shot on my 24" monitor and am glad I did.
In addition to the detail on the Loon, I also love the ripples in the "bow wave" on its chest :)

Stunning!!!

I love the bow wave, and the black/white stripes (including the reflected ones) are fantastic.

My advice - keep doing what you're doing.

Well done.

Thanks guys:

I appreciate your input. Loons are such wonderful subjects, with such a variety of behaviours, that I feel blessed every time I get to float around with them.

Cheers
