As our years of marriage reach ever higher numbers, the need for gifts of china, crystal, precious stones and metals has waned considerably. This year, the gift was a 16 page shredder. Last year it was a Dyson. Next year, who knows?

Your wife seems ok with the unusal but useful gift. Or are those the wedding papers being shred?
My wife and I have just touched 10 years together, giving her a Dyson as a gift would mean divorce.
We're still in the jewelry, watch and - luckily - photo gear category :-)
Anyway, congrats on the 44 years and I wish you both more happy times together.

Actually, seeing this reminded me of the first gift I bought my wife for Christmas after we had been married. She had hinted at perfume but being the practical sort I decided to get her an electric mixer.

There is a 7 year gap in the ages of our sons. ;)

(actually, that mixer is still in the kitchen and every now and then I get cake or some other wonderful confectionery from it.)

There is a 7 year gap in the ages of our sons.

:D A seven years stretch through the dessert, because of a mixer.
At least she forgave you Dallas, men have been ditched for less ...

Luc and Dallas: thanks for looking and the well wishes. Dallas, apparently your lesson in gift giving was learned, although none too quickly. I've got some options on my radar for next year and have narrowed it down to the following: a set of Pocket Wizards, a high speed Dremel tool or a Roomba. She is partial to vacuum cleaners, so the Roomba could be it! Advice accepted. :D Richard

Many congratulations to Richard and Barbara!

I once gave my husband a Dyson for a Valentine's Day present.
(Well it was a RED Dyson and he did seem to be very happy to have a replacement for the useless vacuum cleaner which we had before that — particularly as he was usually the one who had to drive it.)

Hillsidekim and Ann: thanks for replies and good wishes. Ann, we must be kindred spirits given our appreciation for vacuum cleaners. I think though, that I may be going a bit overboard with vacuum cleaners and will substitute a belt sander for the Roomba. Richard

Elsa and Mike: thanks for your comments. Elsa, the possible uses for a Dremel are too numerous to mention! Why just last week..... Mike, most would say I'm lucky to have been kept this long. :D Richard
